Hey! I am an exchange student, currently doing a semester in Sciences Po París, majoring in International Relations and Political Science. My program back home is an undergraduate program that contemplates some courses usually taught in MA programs (remember the Spanish system of education?), like social science research methods and advanced seminaries for policy analysis, comparative politics and international relations. In the future, I would like to continue studying to become a PhD.
I am highly proficient in English (C2 level, according to the TOEFL conversion scale), and a native Spanish speaker, with some knowledge of both French and Portuguese. I have been a teaching assistant in my college at home (Universidad Diego Portales, best university for research in social sciences, link in Spanish http://internacional.udp.cl/udp-entre-las-mejores-universidades-de-chile/); and I have taught courses of english, Spanish, history and international relations to both high school and college students.
In my professional life I have worked as a researcher and a research assistant in political sciences related projects; I have been a spokesman of human rights organizations and have, also, managed small groups of researchers and activists. This has allowed me to acquire social and verbal abilities that make teaching much easier, and it has given me a sense of discipline and an urge for continuous innovation.
When giving lessons I try to follow a constructivist methodology, fostering the deep exploration of topics, and focusing my work, mostly, in the application of acquired knowledge. I find this effective, since it both motivates and improves the incorporation of new abilities and skills. For deeply complex subjects, I usually try to combine humor, arts and popular culture, so the learning process can be less dramatic.
Hobbies? Art, architecture, cinema, latin american literature and politics. I also used to run 10k a day. Those were the good days.
